Join us at Blowing Rocks Preserve for a Stewardship Sunday shoreline cleanup!
FREE volunteer opportunity, open to all!
Plastic pollution is a massive problem for our ocean, but even small actions can make a big difference. Every bottle, every straw, every piece of trash you clean up can lead to a cleaner, healthier ocean. Join us and enjoy a stroll in the outdoors through the trails and beaches of Blowing Rocks Preserve to collect marine debris that has been washed ashore and trash left behind. Volunteers will be instructed by The Nature Conservancy’s preserve staff upon arrival and given all necessary collection supplies.
Check-in for this event will begin at 9:45 AM at the beach kiosk at Blowing Rocks Preserve. At 10:00 A.M., we will begin our walk out to the beach, where we’ll recover marine debris until 11:30 A.M. We’ll then collect and sort the marine debris together to help measure the impact of our work, as well as collecting data for NOAA and the Ocean Conservancy’s marine debris programs.
Prior registration is appreciated but not required, and walk-ins are welcome as long as space allows.
Prepare to spend your time in the sun walking on uneven terrain, and keep in mind your feet always have the potential to get wet. Please note the sand gets hot. Please come prepared with sun protection, a reusable water bottle, and bug spray if needed.
*Light to moderate physical activity.
*Recommended for ages 8+, all youth under the age of 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
